Mac Bao Bao’s Jewels Eyeshadow Palette

 Hey everyone!

In this post, I bring you Mac’s Bao Bao’s Jewels Eyeshadow palette.

I bought this palette from Bicester Village on a day trip with one of my friends last year. We both immediately fell in love with it whilst waiting in the queue to pay for our items and immediately thought we had to buy one each. I must confess, it was def a spur of the moment purchase. I hadn’t even had a good look at it. Darn those sneaky point of sale counters.. 😬

I had since completely forgotten about it until recently and I’m so glad that I have found it again as the colours seem to be perfect for the new season.

So without further ado, let’s get started.

This is the outer cover of the eyeshadow palette.

Isn’t it just beautiful, I I fell in love with the packaging more than the actual product. It caught my eye instantly, the metallic bronze look of the packaging really reminds me of the summer glow!

Onto the best part, here’s what the colours look like..

It’s a beautiful combination of 5 colours that will take you straight from day to night. It’s a collection of metallic golds with Jewel based tones. As it’s a Veluxe Pearlfusion formula, it means you can either use it dry or wet depending on the kind of look you want to achieve.

The shades from top to bottom are;

* Pale pink shimmer – a light shimmering pink with plenty of sparkle.

* Gold shimmer – a warm yellow gold with a warm undertone.

* Dark rose bronze – a coppery bronze with intense pigmentation.

* Dark brown with silver pearl – a warm taupe brown with silver sparkle.

* Steel grey shimmer – gunmetal grey with blue tones. It has a cool undertone.

All the shades have decent pigmentation except the very first one (pale pink shimmer), due to it being very sheer. It hardly shows on my skin tone as you can see in the swatch below. You notice a little sparkle here and there but it does absolutely nothing for me 😕

The swatches for the other shades..

These show up a lot better and the pigmentation is good too. They do tend to fall out quite a lot so that’s something to consider with the veluxe range.

I read online that these shadows work best with a wet look, so this also will help with the fall out issue. Maybe this will make the pink colour intensify a little more on my skin too.

TIP: If the pink colour doesn’t show up on your skin, then use it as a base on the eyes instead. This is what I intend to do with it.

My thoughts:

If I be totally honest, though the colours are very pretty, it’s not worth the price tag it comes with. Had I paid the full price of £33, I would have been highly disappointed. Having said that the discounted price of £23.50 seems justified enough (only just!) 😏

No doubt the packaging is beautiful. I’m a moth to a flame when it comes to good packaging and this one really hit the nail on the head. I ❤️ the bronze metallic look and it sure looks stunning!

Moving over, the brush doesn’t appear to pick the colours as much. I did use my fingers and that seems to really make a difference. It warms up the colour and the shimmer really shows on the eyelids. In comparison, it’s not as intense in colour when applied with a brush. It’s not that great of a pigmentation.

I haven’t tried using a damp brush, I really like the idea of a vibrant wet look, so am really looking forward to it. Maybe that will show the true saturation of colour. I’ll keep you guys posted for sure.

Finally, I wish they had a pop of colour as the very last shade as opposed to the grey steel one. It doesn’t fit with the rest of the colours as it has a cool undertone. I never know what to do with grey colours to be very honest so I was hoping for a vibrant green or a purple to really showcase the Jewel range. What do you guys think?

P.S – Is it just me or does this palette remind you of Princess Jasmine from Disney.. In my head, it’s something I imagine she’d wear. The packaging is also very Arabian princess like.. (only if there were a green emerald colour in the palette!) 👳🏻

My verdict : ❤️❤️❤️ 3/5

I hope you enjoyed this post, until next time Ciao

Sheema xx
