‘There’s something about Chanel..’ – My top picks from Chanel |Beauty Edit

Hey everyone!

I can barely contain my excitement with this post.

There’s something about Chanel which makes us all go giddy with excitement. Whether it’s the ultra-luxe packaging, the selection of vibrant colours or simply the double C inter-locked logo. We can’t help but fall weak in the knees every time we see that coveted chic packaging.

If you’re looking for the top Chanel products but don’t know where to start.. don’t worry! I have you covered ladies! I’ve tried, tested, purchased and used these Chanel products to give you an idea of here to begin with your Chanel journey.

Having worked at Chanel, I’ve been very lucky and fortunate (touchwood!) to have had a first hand experience of trying these products to give an honest feedback to you all. I really hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I have loved creating it. So without further ado, let’s get right into it.

‘ To achieve great things, we must first dream’

Chanel no 5 EDP

Now we can’t talk about Chanel and not mention the world’s most iconic fragrance. ** Drum-roll*

Yes, you’ve guessed it, Chanel no 5.

Now here’s a little history for all you curious minds. Released in 1921, the formula was developed by perfumer Ernest Beaux, who ran a laboratory in Grasse – France. Beaux created a range of samples for the designer and Chanel chose his fifth concoction, making it so after her lucky number.

Chanel spoke of No 5 as ‘a woman’s perfume, with a woman’s scent’. No stranger to marketing, Chanel released the perfume on the fifth day of the fifth month in 1921, commemorating her favourite number.

‘ Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury’

Fun fact: Gabrielle Chanel was very superstitious, obsessed with numbers and numerology. She was fascinated by Astrology: the zodiac, particularly Leo, her own birth sign. The Number five was the most important of these numbers 🌙🔮

The fragrance was a roaring success. This was further helped by Marilyn Monroe who turned it into a twentieth-century obsession. When she was asked during an interview what she wore to bed, she responded ‘just a few drops of Chanel No 5′.

Fast-forward to 2019 and Eau de Parfum no 5 remains the highest selling perfume till date. Are you surprised, why of course not!

I absolutely love Coco Mademoiselle EDP, it’s a beautiful feminine oriental fragrance with a strong personality and surprising freshness.

It’s such an easy wearable perfume that isn’t over-whelming at all. It leaves a beautiful trail behind and lingers on for days. This was one of my first Chanel perfumes and I always keep going back to it. Of course, it does set you back £110 (100ml) but once you are enveloped in this beautiful mysterious scent, you really can’t go back to anything else. I wouldn’t blame you ladies!

The other one that I have been loving since working for Chanel is the Coco Noir (pictured above). As you’re all aware I love my deep mysterious scents and this one caught me off guard completely. Before working for Chanel, I always stayed away from this one. I always thought it’d be too strong and heady for me. It was only when I started working that I realised so many people would reach for this one. I must have sold 3-4 on my first working day alone. I decided I needed to take a whiff and oh boy, am I glad I did. It’s fast become one of my favourite scents and I’m so glad I took the spontaneous decision. It’s pure gorgeousness!

Top Tip: always spray perfume on the pulse points, the warmth of your skin will help to enhance the scent further. Chanel perfumes are highly concentrated so a little goes a long way.

Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre – (Natural Finish Loose Powder)

Oh my, where do I begin with this one. If you want a natural air-brushed look, that rivals the magazine models then this is the product for you.

An ultra-soft, loose powder that provides sheer, light-weight coverage, Poudre Universelle Libre helps to even skin tone, and set and perfect makeup for a natural, matte finish. The photo-reflective pigments illuminate the complexion and disguise imperfections without emphasising lines.

I have never worn foundation but I do love using a little loose powder on me from time to time. I’ve previously used Bare Minerals and Laura Mercier which I’ve loved. However, now that I have been spoilt by Chanel, I can hands on my heart say this has to be the best fine milled powder out there. I seriously can’t fault it at all. I can’t believe I hadn’t tried it out before. If you want a transparent halo that prolongs makeup hold, then your prayers have been answered. It truly is a great setting powder. I don’t know how I lived all this while without it. A total life-saver!

Since I’ve started wearing it, I can safely say it doesn’t settle in the fine lines ( I have a few laughter lines around my eyes). I also find there’s no need for touch-ups as it holds really well throughout the day. Oh and can I just mention the generous amount of product in the packaging. It’s just perfect.

‘ Fashion fades only, style remains the same’

Use the included puff to pick up powder. Gently tap the puff on the back of your hand to remove any excess. Press lightly over the entire face.

The result is a radiant and naturally even complexion all day long. It comes as no surprise then why this is always out of stock online. It’s been receiving rave reviews all around the world.

Top Tip: use with a large powder brush, as it works beautifully in evening out on application.

Le Vernis Nail Polish

Chanel nail colours are vibrant, glossy and so so coveted. Chanel are known for their signature red nails and lips so it comes as no surprise that these colours have caused a havoc amongst the celebrities and models in the beauty industry. One of the most popular colour is ‘Rouge Noir’ which is a lovely deep red that caters to all skin colours.

Fun Fact: This colour was instantly adopted by the A-list as Uma Thurman was seen wearing it in Pulp Fiction as did Madonna in her ‘Take a Bow’ video later that year. We certainly don’t mind a bit of Hollywood do we now?

I’ll be honest, I never understood the concept of spending too much on nail colours. I believe in spending good amounts of money on skincare and foundations but thought that nail products didn’t need to be so expensive. I somewhat still hold that viewpoint, but it has somewhat shifted (still not completely though!).

I recently purchased the shade ‘Prune Dramatique) and let me tell you it’s the most beautiful Plum/dark grape shade. Oh it just looks so gorgeous on, so glossy and vibrant. I had worn this nail colour for days to work and it didn’t chip at all. This pleasantly surprised me as most nail colour start chipping after a while. I love how glossy it is on the nails, there’s really no need for any top coats.

‘ How many cares one loses when one decides not to be something but someone’

P.s – the best part, it doesn’t stain the nail at all. I fear with dark colours, they usually stain the nails and they do end up looking rather grubby. However, not with the Chanel nail colours. An extra brownie point for sure!

Top Tip: Use their Le Gel coat, which accentuates the colour and makes the Polish last longer.

Le Crayon Levres – Lip Definer

I absolutely love my lipsticks and lip-liners, especially in a matte formula.

When I came across the Chanel lip-liners, I was a little apprehensive at first. The reason being that at £20 for a single lip-liner seemed a little too costly. I absolutely LOVE Chanel’s Rouge Allure lipsticks but I feel there are other brands who do similar lip-liners for an affordable pricing. It’s not to say these are not worth the price but you can find affordable alternatives elsewhere unless you’re a die-hard Chanel fan of course.

If you’re a die-hard Chanel fan, then carry on reading about the lip-liners.

I love that it comes double ended: one side being the lip-liner and the other a built-in brush. It also contains a sharpener which I think is super cute and handy.

I purchased the lip-liner in shade 26 (Pretty Pink) which is a lovely shimmery deep pink that is suitable for all occasions. I personally love wearing pink and this pink coloured lip-liner will match a lot of my current shades. As like the classic lipsticks, it’s completely velvety and smoothes on the lips like butter. It’s highly hydrating so you don’t feel like you have something on. It doesn’t feel as if you have something sitting on your lips which is lovely.

Can you see the shimmer in the swatch above? It really is a beautiful shade that will suit everyone. I don’t think I will be purchasing anymore lip-liners but this one is a great addition to my existing lip collection.

However, let me tell you the lipsticks are second to none (especially the Rouge Allure range which I’m OBSESSED with). I love their velvety formulas, the pigmentation, intense colour pay-off and the wide selection of shades available. I always say you must own at least one Chanel lipstick for your collection. It’s totally heavenly!

As you are aware, Chanel are known for their red lip colours. When I started working for them, I realised how many colour red options they had available. They had a ton of cool and warm based colours to suit all skin tones which truly made the brand what it is. It is no wonder why then so many people reach out to their lippies as not only do they have such a selection but the intense colour pay-off is just insane. It really feels like you are using a high quality luxe product on yourself. It’s totally worth the price. I own a few and can totally see myself purchasing more in the future.

Oh can I just mention how beautiful the black and gold luxe packaging looks when you whip it out of your handbag.. totally worth purchasing!

Chanel accessories

Can you purchase Chanel makeup and not own a Chanel mirror? I’m sorry ladies, I had to give in despite keeping a blind eye for weeks.

I just couldn’t finish my shift and not purchase the last mirror that was available. I knew I had to snap it up. I know, I know, I should be more sensible but in all honesty I couldn’t resist.

It comes in beautiful velvet pouch which I think is super cute. It’s double ended with a magnifying mirror which I think is super handy. I love that it’s a square as it’s very easy to manoeuvre than a round mirror which I’ve owned previously. I struggle with round mirrors but this one is just so easy to work with.

I’m not going to give you the price of it as I know I’ll get a rolled-eye look but ladies just know I’ve been really good thus far. It’s so easy for temptation to kick in especially when you work on a makeup counter, it becomes so difficult to keep a distant. They may as well pay me in makeup as it goes all back to the company *sigh* I promise it only happens occasionally 😭

‘ A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous’

Phew, we’ve finally made it to the end of the post but there’s a part 2 coming up. As there’s so many top picks, it simply can’t be covered in one post alone. So do stay tuned for it.

I’d love to know what Chanel products you own, what you think about the brand. I’d love to live vicariously through your Chanel journey. Do share it below

  1. That’s so lovely! I’m in love with the nail colour as they have such a glossy look to it. Their lipsticks are absolutely gorgeous hun, I will highly recommend them. P.s – just need to win the lotto to be able to afford their clothing *sigh* Apparently its a £100 million win today so I caved in and brought a ticket 😭 xx

  2. There really is! Sorry, I had a momentary memory lapse with the items I was previously asking about.
I love Chanel polish. I treat myself to 1, maybe 2 bottles per year and that’s all I need. Great because 2 coats lasts so much longer than other polishes. And it doesn’t start chipping away at the ends as soon as you wash dishes 😉

  3. Aww thank you hun, I always fear everyone might think my views are biased as I work for them but seriously Chanel products have immense staying power. You only need a couple of spritz and those perfumes will last a very long time. I was a little apprehensive about the nail polishes initially, but they really stay on for days without chipping. ( I have my eye on a couple more but I’m being a very sensible girl! Eeks) I guess even though it’s on the high end of the budget but as you say, they’re worth the investment.. here’s hoping I win a lotto soon! 😁 xx

  4. Chanel products are good. They work, otherwise the company reputation wouldn’t be as good as it is.
Well worth the investment! Like I said, I purchase 1 bottle of a good colour for S/S and another good colour for A/W. It lasts well enough that I can wear it everyday for the full seasons and when the polish is out, it’s already time to buy for the warmer/colder season, so it works great! Compare that to needing 5 bottles of more affordable, and you will see that it is well worth the price. 😉
Please let me know when you win the lotto. I can help you decide how to spend it…Got some great ideas. Hah! 😀

Haha, I’ll def keep you posted love, I’m sure we’ll enjoy our Chanel shopping once we’ve won the lotto! I’ll be thinking of you on my next one 😁 xx

  6. Ahh totally agree hun, they’re such great quality items. The powder is just so lovely, it’s finely milled powder which goes on like a treat. It’s so light on the skin and hides any imperfections without looking cakey at all.. You must try it 💕 xx
