Last day with the siblings! 😢

  
Hey everyone! 

I wanted to share this post of our last day with my brothers as their Easter break had come to an end. The week with them passed by ever so quickly and the house did feel very empty for the first couple of days.. 😢 (though they have promised to come back in the summer as they loved it here and had so much fun!). Hurray for more adventures! 

Though presently they are back in England, I wanted to wait a few days before sharing this post. 

During the last day, we decided to keep it very local and explore the town where we live. Also, it helped they were flying out at 9 pm so we had plenty of time to visit the places we wanted to see locally. 

  

The morning was a little grey at the beginning, I did worry whether it’d start raining as the weather here is quite unpredictable at this time of the year. 

I frantically had to keep checking my weather app but to no avail ☹️

Also, as Northern Spain is borderline with Southern France, the temperatures do drop drastically and it ends up getting much colder in comparison to the rest of Spain. 

P.S Our town is only 30 mins away from the French border so you can imagine how much of an effect this has weather wise and so I was really hoping it wasn’t going to be dark, grey and gloomy. 

However thankfully for us, as the day went by, the clouds completely vanished and the weather had heated up by mid-day. The sun was shining brightly through the clouds and it was just the most beautiful pleasant sunny day. Ahh perfect last day!

Though it’s one of the fewer towns that doesn’t have a beach, the mountains do look elegant and it adds to its picture perfect scenery. 

  
  
The town square is very big and spacious, it holds festivals and carnivals that hit the streets (almost every couple of weeks!). There is so much happening that it is impossible not to have fun. 

However, interestingly it turns into one big social gathering in the evenings… all the local bars open up, there’s music, the chairs come out in the main square and everyone gathers together to enjoy the laid back Spanish way of life. The bars stay open till the early hours of the morning. You’ll see lots of families with children quite late into the evening enjoying, being merry and having fun! 🍸

No matter where you look, you’ll see people enjoying their evenings sitting in their terraces and sipping away a delicious Spanish drink and indulging in mouthwatering tapas.. Spaniards believe in quality of life whether it’s the way they live or eat, (they love their fresh fruit and vegetables) it’s very much evident when you spend time here. It’s a nice change from the ever so busy hectic life we are all usually accustomed to. 

  
  
Fun fact: Spaniards love their “siesta” – for those who aren’t aware of this term, it’s a short nap taken early in the afternoon, often after mid-day. This is especially common in warmer countries. The churches, museums, shops, literally everything closes during this time, so that people can go home, take a long extended lunch break from work (2-3 hours) and snooze during the day. The shops start re-opening from 4-4:30 pm back for business. I, for one am loving this sleep culture! 💤

So whilst everyone was enjoying their siesta break,we decided to head over to this cafe (the only one I know that still stays open) and ordered some much needed coffee and yummy treats! ☕️🍪

Now, unbeknown to me, Spain has its own version of hot chocolate. As I go up and request two cups of hot chocolate. The guy at the cafe explained that they don’t really do hot chocolate as such and that they had their Spanish version of it if we wanted to order that instead. My brothers were completely up for it and so as we were waiting for our order, we notice two cups of warm milk with hot chocolate satchets. Initially, my brothers didn’t know what to expect but as soon as they tasted it, they fell in love with it. I think I need to try it it for next time! 

P.S you also get free sample biscuit or chocolate with your drinks. It doesn’t matter whether it’s stay in or take away, they always give you an edible freebie with it. They really know how to spoil you!

This square is so busy during the evenings and it’s crazy to think how jam packed this place ends up being. Luckily, we managed to take this picture before everyone started flooding in 😝

( you guys know I have been loving gold jewellery for the summer.. Am really into dangly/coin necklaces as of late, it really completes and compliments an outfit. Btw it’s a really long necklace which I’ve doubled up as one!)  ✨

It’s been an awesome week with my siblings and we really enjoyed visiting and exploring all these places together. Hopefully, they’ll come during the summer and we’ll continue with more mad adventures.. Until then, hope you’ve enjoyed this small glimpse of what this Spanish town to offer.
